Radiesse

About Radiesse

Like other dermal fillers, Radiesse works in the deep layers of the skin to elevate recessed areas, “filling in” lines and areas that have lost volume. However, Radiesse has a unique formula that sets it apart from other dermal fillers and gives it the ability to tackle even the most pronounced lines and creases. Simply put, Radiesse works differently. Dermal fillers like Juvederm use hyaluronic acid as their active ingredient. This indispensable molecule binds to the water molecules present in the skin, creating the lush, dewy volume that so many patients love. And over time, it is naturally reabsorbed by the body.

Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a smooth gel. These minuscule microspheres are made of biocompatible calcium and are completely invisible to the naked eye. Once they arrive in the dermis, they stimulate the production of new, healthy collagen in the treated area. Patients enjoy an immediate improvement from the gel, and results that gradually improve as the new stores of collagen fill out the area of concern. As a result, Radiesse can handle deep wrinkles and furrows around the mouth, along the jawline, and even rejuvenate aging hands.

CALCIUM HYDROXYLAPATITE (CAHA)

Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) is a synthetic version of the naturally occurring mineral compound found in bones. Radiesse contains synthetic CaHA microspheres that are suspended in an aqueous gel. The solution also contains small amounts of lidocaine to minimize discomfort during treatment. (1) CaHA is biocompatible and provides structural support to facial soft tissues by promoting neocollagenesis: the production of naturally-occurring collagen. Radiesse is thicker than hyaluronic dermal fillers. This enhanced viscosity, along with its collagen-boosting abilities, makes it an ideal filler for moderate and severe lines and wrinkles. And because the body has produced its own store of new, healthy collagen, results last between 12 and 18 months for most patients. (2) Additionally, Radiesse can be used to rejuvenate crepey, aged hands, an often overlooked but prominent sign of aging.
